Emil(y/t)

The atheist, feminist, LGBTQ supporter from a small, predominantly-religious, rural town in southwest Ohio.

I'm a teenager with really frustrating curly hair, an insecurity about being underweight, and a hope for a society with complete acceptance. I post political things with a hope to become an activist in the future.

Moronic, adamant, ludicrous, perfectly sane, whatever - I've never been a big fan of adjectives.

So I’m doing my argumentative research paper on feminism and femininity.

I’d like articles/books on the topic! Whether they are for or against feminists being feminine, I’d like to read them all.

If anyone has any suggestions pleaseee send them my way.

No, you can’t deny women their basic rights and pretend it’s about your “religious freedom.”  If you don’t like birth control, don’t use it.  Religious freedom doesn’t mean you can force others to live by your own beliefs.  - Barack Obama

oh, BO. You understand me.

Boom.

Just logged back on for the first time in over three months.

I’ve been working on my more “personal” blog at rosenymph.tumblr.com but I think I might start coming back to this one for more political posts. Thanks for not leaving me! c:

caughtinaparadox asked:

Not attacking your opinion but honestly wondering why you believe peaceful protesting will work? (and not in comparison to violent protesting just peaceful protesting accomplishments in itself.)

Just imagine the following scenario: The people at OWS become violent and start rioting against the police. What will the police do in response? Fight harder, of course. They have a lot of weapons, high defense, and government at their aid and disposal. They will no longer have to worry about keeping their violence under the radar. Police brutality is a thing in the past once that line is crossed from peace to violence; the protesters are not innocent. The media that has been trying to twist the story against the protesters will be correct after that point, and people will become unfriendly with the movement. Support will dwindle. People will be arrested, hurt, maybe even killed. Is that really what the OWS movement is about? Everything OWS has accomplished will have gone out the window.

Since when has anyone heard “violence is the answer” over “violence is not the answer”? Think of MLK Jr., just as an example. All of the sit-ins, boycotts, and other peaceful tactics even in the face of extreme danger paid off in the end. He was adamant about his peaceful philosophy. It took a long time for things to change, but they definitely did change. Hardly anyone who isn’t a bigot thinks badly about that movement. Would anyone have taken them seriously if they thought the way to accomplish their goals was by attacking police and rioting down the street until they got what they wanted? Would anyone have thought that was a good way to go about getting equality?

To put it simply, violence isn’t rewarded by positivity. If people wish to be treated as equals, then they must act as they want to be treated, even if those they demand respect from aren’t acting as that ideal.

I hope that answered your question completely.

Fake “Clinic” Cons 17-Year-Old Girl

panasonicyouth:

prolongedeyecontact:

An Indiana mother recently accompanied her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend to one of Indiana’s Planned Parenthood clinics, but they unwittingly walked into a so-called “crisis pregnancy center” run by an anti-abortion group, one that shared a parking lot with the real Planned Parenthood clinic and was designed expressly to lure Planned Parenthood patients and deceive them.

The group took down the girl’s confidential personal information and told her to come back for her appointment, which they said would be in their “other office” (the real Planned Parenthood office nearby). When she arrived for her appointment, not only did the Planned Parenthood staff have no record of her, but the police were there. The “crisis pregnancy center” had called them, claiming that a minor was being forced to have an abortion against her will.

The “crisis pregnancy center” staff then proceeded to wage a campaign of intimidation and harassment over the following days, showing up at the girl’s home and calling her father’s workplace. Planned Parenthood’s clinic director reports that the girl was “scared to death to leave her house.” They even went to her school and urged classmates to pressure her not to have an abortion.

The anti-choice movement is setting up these “crisis pregnancy centers” across the country. Some of them have neutral-sounding names and run ads that falsely promise the full range of reproductive health services, but they dispense anti-choice propaganda and intimidation instead. And according to a recent article in The New York Times, there are currently more of these centers in the U.S. than there are actual abortion providers. What’s more, these centers have received $60 million in government grants. They’re being funded by our tax dollars.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund, 24 April 2006

[Emphasis mine. Hear that folks? We are funding terrorists with our tax dollars. The fact that this is legal is absolutely mind-blowing. And when we dare complain, they cry about how they’re being persecuted and censored unfairly, and we’re infringing on their freedom of speech. No, just no. This should not be fucking allowed.]

Signal boost. This is really fucked up.

well this just pissed me off.

Signal boost. Fuck this shit.

Pick her up and pretend you’re going to throw her in the pool. She’ll scream and fight you, but secretly, she’ll love it. Hold her hand while you talk. Hold her hand when you drive. Just hold her hand. Tell her she looks pretty. Look her in the eyes when you talk to her. Protect her. Tell her stupid jokes. Tickle her, even when she says stop. When she starts swearing at you, tell her you love her. Let her fall asleep in your arms. Get her mad, then kiss her. Tease her and let her tease you back. Kiss her on the cheek. Kiss her on the forehead. Just kiss her. Let her wear your clothes. Go slow. Don’t push anything. When you fall in love with her, TELL HER.

Most of these are terrible ideas. D:
